History

  • Safe Journey was organized in early 1978 by a group of concerned residents that included people of faith, the justice of the peace, police officers, a social worker and other townspeople who were instrumental in identifying the need for domestic violence services. By late 1978 a small house was rented for use as a shelter. The organization became incorporated and was granted 501 ( c )3 tax-exempt status in 1983.
  • Safe Journey is a non-profit shelter and counseling center that has provided core victim services at no cost for over thirty years to victims of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking.
  • Safe Journey is governed by a Board of Directors with appointed committees and has a yearly audit. Safe Journey is guided by principles of agency integrity, community resource collaboration, inclusiveness, respect for every person, creativity and accountability.
  • Safe Journey is a funded member of the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence (PCADV) and must adhere to strict program, service, policy/procedure, and employment, governance and financial standards and is monitored every two years.
